Client
Major North American Airport — operating one of the largest digital signage networks in Canada, covering wayfinding, gates, flight and baggage displays.
Industry
Aviation · Digital Signage
Engagement
Migration of ~1,200 displays from DOS to .NET · Redundant server build · GIS mapping of assets
Timeline
6 months · Delivered on schedule
The Challenge
- ❌ Legacy DOS-based software no longer supported or scalable
- ❌ Nearly 1,200 displays to migrate — from 42” wayfinding screens to large LED boards
- ❌ Mix of FIDS, BIDS, GIDS, and dynamic wayfinding with different criticality levels
- ❌ Required zero downtime for critical passenger information
What We Delivered
Migration & Planning
- ✅ Phased rollout: non-critical displays first, then critical FIDS/BIDS
- ✅ Full helpdesk monitoring of migrated screens
- ✅ Asset cataloging in GIS with display IDs (e.g., DSP-101, Level 2, Zone A)
- ✅ Remote migration across all player hardware
Infrastructure
- ✅ Built two new redundant servers
- ✅ Transitioned all players to DHCP addressing
- ✅ Catalogued and mapped ~1,000 screens for troubleshooting
Tech Snapshot
- .NET signage software upgrade (from DOS)
- Oracle backend for content control
- DHCP-assigned player hardware with remote management
- GIS system for mapping + helpdesk integration
Results
Scale
~1,200 displays migrated — FIDS, BIDS, Dynamic Wayfinding, and LED big boards.
Reliability
Zero major disruptions during the entire 6-month migration.
Future-Readiness
Redundant servers and mapped assets simplified support and scalability.
This project kept the airport’s passenger communication systems modern, stable, and ready for future innovation.
“The migration was seamless. From planning phases to the last LED board, every display was upgraded on time and without disruption to passengers.”
